Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The story of a Jewish family living on the Upper West Side of New York City over a twenty-year period, from 1980 to 2000. The play, which premiered on Broadway in 2013, received three Tony Award nominations, including Best Play, with Judith Light winning for Best Featured Actress. THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES by Richard Greenberg is a brilliantly written play with star vehicles for its performers and an opportunity for audiences to be dazzled.
In 1980, the Bascov family gets together to celebrate Christmas. They are Jewish but do not observe their religion. They gather at the large and luxurious Upper West Side (New York) apartment of Julie, a former teen movie star and her wealthy husband Ben. Enter Ben’s sister Faye and her family, and let the shenanigans begin. 20 years later, in 2000, the family meets again at Christmas at Julie’s apartment, but much has changed.
“Aaron Sorkin meets Neil Simon….The cleverness is supported by a foundation of warmth, sensitivity, even delicacy that makes this funny-sad comedy as unexpectedly affecting as it is entertaining.” – The Hollywood Reporter
“Very, very funny, and, as it ends, deeply moving. What’s most impressive, though, is Greenberg’s command of his craft in weaving an ambitious, intricately connected tapestry of family relationships: husbands and wives, brother and sister, and, most profoundly, parents and children.” – NorthJersey.com
“A beautiful and touching look at the inner workings of a well-to-do family, their mistakes and the stories that bind them… superb acting and writing.” – Associated Press
