For four years in a row, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has been honored as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals and as a recipient of HealthGrade’s Patient Safety Excellence Award, among others. It is rated in the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for overall cardiac services.
“Celebrating more than forty years of serving North Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, PBGMC is dedicated to delivering safe, cost-effective care to the community and patients it serves, striving to provide the best and safest medical care possible,” said Scott McFarland, MD, medical director of the emergency department at PBGMC.
Since performing the region’s first open-heart surgery, PBGMC has continued to deliver quality care, technology and patient satisfaction. Services include: comprehensive cardiac care, orthopedics and joint replacement, 24-hour emergency services, outpatient surgery, cardiac and physical rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging and more.
In addition, PBGMC partners with the VersantTM RN Residency program, designed to enhance nursing quality and patient care.
“To meet the needs of growing North Palm Beach communities, Tenet Healthcare Corporation provided the funds … for a new $13.6-million Emergency Department expansion at PBGMC, which opened officially August 30, 2010,” McFarland said.
“It actually took seven years in the planning stage and only ten months in the construction phase. We started construction in November 2009 and finished this past August.”
The new department more than triples the size of the old department while continuing its long tradition of cutting-edge emergency medical services, McFarland explained.
“We here locally were invited to help with the core design, though there was a professional design team handling the overall project. Our input was mostly for the physical space, how our department interfaced with the lab and other departments and what was the most cost-effective plan for the layout.”
