There are certain times of year when it’s especially rewarding to live in South Florida, and January is definitely one of those times! While the majority of the country is battling the winter blues, we Floridians are out and about enjoying the height of the season with social gatherings of all kinds in full swing. This year, one of the most exciting public events is celebrating its 100th birthday – don’t miss out on the South Florida Fair from January 13 to January 29!
Located along Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach, this powerhouse is a delight for all ages and an absolute must-attend for anyone with school-age children. Not only does the Fair have all the usual bells and whistles like amusement-park rides and hot dog & cotton candy vendors, but there is so much more in the 130-acre mega-plex that you need to see to believe!
AGRIPLEX
Horses and pigs and goats, oh my! Your kids are sure to love the great lineup of events at the South Florida Fair’s Agriplex. There is so much to see and do that you’ll be hard-pressed to cover everything. From cattle, goat, rabbit and poultry shows to creative crafting events like quilt blocking and potluck competitions, this division of the fair is a hub of activity sure to please the most discriminating of fair-goers. Every day is jam-packed with a variety of great exhibitions and hands-on animal action (please note that the Fair has posted hand-washing stations near the hands-on animal exhibit areas). From Rooster Crowing to Horse Grooming, this is a fantastic opportunity to further your child’s interest and growth in practical knowledge of livestock and agriculture.
Personal Favorite: Be sure to stop by the Horse Pavilion on 4-H Day – Sunday, January 22 – to see 4-H members participating in a full day’s exhibition including the Potato Race and the Egg & Spoon Race!
